Exploring Innovative Denture Technology

Dentures are appliances that replace missing teeth, restore your smile, and make it easier to chew and talk. You may be familiar with traditional removable dentures, sometimes called false teeth, but many other innovative forms of denture technology exist. These options have many benefits, from permanent solutions to better wear and tear and more comfort, and may be better alternatives, depending on your unique oral health.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth placed into your jawbone via a post. It has three parts: the post, the abutment, which sits on top of the post, and the crown, which looks like a natural tooth.

Dental implants are an excellent option if you need to replace a few missing teeth or find dentures uncomfortable. Implants are long-lasting, durable, look and feel natural, and can withstand the force and wear and tear or normal daily functions better than most other options.

All-on-4 Implant Bridge

An All-on-4 implant bridge, sometimes called same-day teeth, attaches a set of replacement teeth to four posts placed in your jawbone. Your dentist may use these to quickly create a set of natural-looking teeth and avoid bone grafting.

As the name suggests, the procedure happens in one day, where your dentist implants the posts and sends you home with a temporary set of teeth attached to the posts. After about six months of healing, you’ll receive a permanent set of teeth.

All-on-4 implants immediately restore your smile, ability to chew, and speech. While you may be sore right after the procedure, that discomfort is temporary and will go away. With these implants, you can achieve good teeth hygiene, and you don’t have to deal with constant soreness from removable dentures.

Implant-Supported Bridge

A bridge fills in missing teeth. It consists of crowns placed over your natural teeth on either side of a gap to “bridge” it, with an artificial tooth in the middle to replace the missing one. An implant bridge fills in several missing teeth in the same area and uses two or more implants to attach a set of multiple connected teeth.

These non-removable solutions help you regain chewing and function and maintain bone health and facial structure. Implant bridges also restore your smile with natural-looking teeth.

Overdentures

Sometimes called snap-in dentures or implant-retained dentures, overdentures are a mix between All-on-4 implants and removable dentures. Overdentures involve placing two or four posts into your jawbone, where you can secure a set of dentures.

These options allow you to remove the appliance for cleaning but secure it in place while in use. They help stabilize your jaw, improve your speech and ability to chew, and may be more comfortable than traditional removable dentures.
